Early life care

Puppies and kittens are first protected by proteins given to them through the placenta and in mom's milk.  This protection weakens starting around 6 weeks for puppies, and 9 weeks for kittens.  We start our vaccines then to keep them healthy and help their own immune system mature.

Puppies and kittens are more likely to become ill from parasites and they can get them from mom's milk as well as contaminated environments.  At youth visits we will discuss a proper deworming plan.

That first year, especially the first four months of a puppy or kitten is when they learn how they will interact with many different things in the world.  How to play, listen, what to be afraid of are lessons they will learn whether or not you are actively teaching them.  Any questions about behavior concerns or training can be brought up during your visits.
